Tennis
Wimbledon is the annual event in June/July that draws the crowds year on year. Prior to this, Queen’s Club also attracts most of the top seeded players as a good warm-up to Wimbledon and is a world class tournament.
Rugby
As the saying goes, football is a game for gentlemen played by hooligans, rugby is a game for hooligans played by gentlemen. The Six Nations is one of the world’s most popular annual sporting events, especially here in the UK. Come and watch some of the finest rugby players in the world in action in February and March.
Horse Racing
Known as the sport of Kings, horse racing still remains a great passion of the British elite. There are many prestigious events across the country throughout the year. Cheltenham, the spiritual home of jump racing, starts its season in October. The Grand National, in April, is the classic National Hunt race and the Epsom Derby in June is still ranked as one of the greatest flat races in the world. Later on in June, Royal Ascot is the pinnacle of the flat race season. Here, you will have an opportunity to catch a glimpse of the Queen and other members of the Royal Family, as well as to enjoy dressing up in glamorous hats for the ladies and top hat and tails for the men.
Football
Wembley Stadium is home of ‘the beautiful game’ and home of The FA Cup. The final, played in May each year, is one of the huge highlights of any sporting calendar.
Sailing & Rowing
Finally, take in one of the truly British events, Cowes Week (sailing) or the Henley Royal Regatta (rowing), for a true taste of English sporting eccentricity. Silly hats optional, but entirely recommended!
Cricket
Cricket’s Holy Grail is Lord’s Cricket ground, home of the MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club) and keeper of the cricket rule book, but The Oval, also in London, was the first ground in England to host international Test cricket, in September 1880. The final Test match of the English season is traditionally played here.
Motor Racing
The British Grand Prix is held each July, at Silverstone. Come and see the glitterrati flock to see Button and Hamilton take on their rivals.
